Frederick
William Heine
1845-1921 |

|
Was born in Leipzig, Germany and
schooled in art there. He worked worked mostly in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
and founded the Heine Art School there. He was noted for his battle scenes,
the most famous of which is the Civil War Cyclorama in Atlanta, Georgia, genre paintings and landscapes. Offered is a masterfull watercolor on
paper, 19 1/2"X14 1/2", of a battle scene, perhaps of the Franco-Prussian
War. It shows in remarkable detail a soldier taking a meal in the field
surrounded by flowers while in the background are several other figures
engaged in the battle with artillery firing. The detail and craftsmanship
of this piece is unsurpassable. It is signed "FW Heine", lower
right and is presented matted in a rare and wonderful antique Amerian
Frame, Circa 1890, in 22kt gilt, 36"X32" outside dimensions,
valued conservatively at $5,000.
